Privacy
Rankd ranks athletes on the numbers they log. That only works if you know exactly what we hold and who can see it. This page says so in plain terms. If anything here is unclear, ask before you sign up.
Who we are
Rankd is operated from Alberta, Canada. You can reach us at the email address on the account you signed up with, and we will answer any question on this page.
You must be 13 or older
We refuse accounts for anyone under 13. We ask for your date of birth at signup and check it before an account is created — not afterwards.
This is deliberate. Collecting anything from a child under 13 triggers rules (COPPA in the US) that require verifiable parental consent — proving a parent's identity, not ticking a box. We have not built that, so we do not accept those accounts at all rather than handle them badly.
Many of our users are between 13 and 18. If you are a parent or guardian and want your child's account removed, email us and we will delete it.
What we collect
Only what the product needs to rank you:
- Account — your name, email address, and a password we store only as a one-way hash. We never see your actual password.
- Profile — date of birth, sport, position, height, weight, your city, region and country, and anything you write in your goals.
- Performance — every metric you log, its value, when you recorded it, and how it was verified.
- Clips and photos — anything you upload, plus the caption you give it.
- Activity — who you follow, likes, comments, challenges you send or accept, and anyone you block.
- Coaches — if you apply for coach access, your organisation and work email address.
- Payment — if you buy a paid plan, our payment processor handles your card. We never receive or store card numbers.
We do not track you across other websites, we do not run advertising, and we do not buy data about you from anyone else.
Who can see it
Your ranking numbers are the point of the product, so they are visible to the people you are ranked against. You control how far that goes, in Settings, at any time:
- Athletes — any signed-in athlete, plus approved coaches. This is the default.
- Team — only athletes you share a team with, plus approved coaches. Use this to be ranked without being browsable.
- Coaches — approved coaches only. Nobody else, not even other athletes.
You can also block another user, which removes you from each other's view entirely.
We never sell your data, and we never share it for advertising.
Companies that process data for us
We use a small number of services to run Rankd. They process data on our instructions only:
- Vercel — hosting, and storage for the clips and photos you upload.
- Neon — the database.
- Resend — sending email, such as your verification link.
- Stripe — payment processing, only if you buy a paid plan.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account yourself, from Settings. It asks you to type your email address to confirm, because it cannot be undone.
Deletion is real deletion. Your account, profile, every metric entry, every clip, your follows, comments and challenges are removed from the database — not hidden, not deactivated. If you have a paid plan, we cancel the billing first so nothing is charged to a card you can no longer sign in to manage.
Depending on where you live you may also have the right to ask for a copy of your data, or to have it corrected. Email us and we will do it.
Security
Passwords are hashed, never stored in readable form. Email verification links are stored hashed too, are single-use, and expire after 24 hours. Traffic to the site is encrypted.
No service can promise it will never be breached. If yours is affected, we will tell you.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that affects what we collect or who can see it, we will say so in the app rather than quietly editing this page.
